Deansgate Demolition

As part of a wider regeneration scheme, Fairhurst was appointed as the Structural Engineer and Principal Designer for the demolition of two pedestrian footbridges in Manchester City Centre. The footbridges date from the early 1970’s and link the multi-storey car park and the listed Kendals Building in Deansgate.

After two weeks of preparation work, the bridges were carefully cut away from the two buildings and lowered by crane onto the ground. The site team were greatly relieved once the final bridge was safely lowered.

The elevations have been temporarily repaired, and we look forward to the next phase of the redevelopment.
